Ermelosche heide
About 10 kilometers from Buitenplaats Elspeterbosch lies the Ermelosche Heide: a vast and characteristic heath field with a rich history. The area contains burial mounds and traces of a Roman marching camp, with the defensive walls still clearly recognizable in the landscape. In the 20th century, the site served as a military training ground; today it is a popular nature area for day recreation.
Wide sandy paths run through the heath where you can freely walk, and there is a beautiful cycling path along the most scenic parts of the area. Additionally, there are marked walking routes, including a circular walk starting at the Ermelosche sheepfold.
