19km - Apeldoorn
Paleis Het Loo
About 19 kilometers from Buitenplaats Elspeterbosch, in Apeldoorn, you will find one of the most beautiful day-trip destinations in the Netherlands: Paleis Het Loo. This original 17th-century palace of the House of Orange attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and was awarded three stars, the highest score, by the Michelin Travel Guide. Moreover, it was named by Prix Versailles as one of the seven most beautiful museums in the world.
There is enough to discover for everyone. Walk through the beautifully restored palace gardens, exactly as William III and Mary II Stuart had them laid out back then. Visit the permanent exhibition about the Oranges, from William I to Amalia, and discover how the royal house has shaped the Netherlands. In the stable courtyard, you will find the collection of carriages and royal cars, and especially for children, there is the Junior Palace with interactive assignments and digital experiences. Complete your visit with a high tea in the atmospheric Prins Hendrik Garage, the former royal car garage. An outing that certainly takes half a day or more.
