Hattem
About 40 kilometers from Buitenplaats Elspeterbosch lies Hattem, one of the most picturesque Hanseatic cities in the region. This compact town on the IJssel has a well-preserved historic center with authentic facades, narrow streets, and charming canals.
Hattem is known for its rich cultural history and is also called a museum city, with several museums within the city limits. Recommended are the Anton Pieck Museum and the Dutch Bakery Museum Hattem. The Hattem Windmill is a working windmill offering views over the surrounding fields and the IJssel. The nature around Hattem is also worth a visit, with walking paths along the river and the forests on the edge of the Veluwe. Combine a visit to the center with a walk outside the city walls and you will have a beautiful, relaxing day out. Throughout the year there are also events and activities, including the large Hanseatic Flea Market that attracts visitors from far beyond the region each year.
